Or they at least look super nice, and are very safe from the mean chills of time.
The display case was an extremely thoughtful birthday gift from our client to her husband, a big time matchbook collector (we believe she said her husband's grandfather also collected, so it's a nice family tradition). It's made entirely of cherry wood (aside from the beautiful, custom glass doors). The case is 28" by 24" and only 2" thick - the right size for dozens, maybe hundreds, of matchbooks. There are 10 shelves and each shelf features a little lip to support the books (and so they won't fall out when you open the doors).
And the doors! Each is 24" by 14", with glass fit into a custom-made cherry frame, each side of which is just 3/4" wide. The two doors close with a small gold latch.
The backing of the case is made of six flat cherry boards, with ship-lapped edges, so they overlap and have room to expand and contract with the seasons. The entire case hangs on a French cleat, holding it snugly to the wall and also making for easy moving.
The whole thing is carefully made to hold its tiny cargo - a true heirloom quality piece that you can hang on your wall for all of your friends to admire!
