Now for the facts: the Marion Trestle Table is a cherry bombshell. It's a custom kitchen table, perfect for family dinners and full-scale entertaining. Pretty enough for use with the in-laws, but also smooth and easy to clean.
We installed and photographed the piece on a very sunny day, great for Boston at the end of a disgustingly long winter, but bad for us - there's a lot of bright spots in the photos. We apologize and promise every slice of the table is just as gorgeous as the bits you can see clearly.
Trestle tables are a classic design, but one that translates well to a modern decor scheme. The trestles, or the two legs, are attached to each other with one massive stretcher, with tenons that stick through both legs, and are held in place with wooden wedges.
That means that the table can easily be taken apart (or "knocked down" as they used to say), because the main joints of the table are mechanical--no glue involved.
The table top itself features an acre of beautiful cherry wood that will darken as it ages. Since it's solid wood, it can also be easily refinished, so you can use it as much as you like without needing a table cover (like your grandparents had).
We also made the top with something we're calling "river edges." We cut the edges carefully along the grain lines of the boards, and then beveled the edges underneath. The result highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain while keeping it tight and clean. It's a mix between a classic live edge piece (at a fraction of the price), and a modern aesthetic that will anchor the fanciest contemporary kitchen.
