We designed the island to fit in with the current kitchen - painted white with silver fixtures. The painted parts of the base are primarily oak, in order to make sure it will never struggle to hold up the huge stone top. The divider is shiplap (something fans of Fixer Upper will know is super hot right now) - which will allow the wood to move with changes in temperature and time. The shelves are black walnut - a luxurious dark wood that really stands out against all of the lighter features.
The piece features pull-out drawer storage (each as long and wide as we could make them). The divided base provides ample room for seating on one side, and plenty of storage on the other. Each shelf is 12" wide and 53" long - allowing, as you can see in the pictures, for a ton of tall and wide storage, perfect for pots and pans that don't always fit well in normal cabinetry.
Our client's needs were considered throughout the process to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece of furniture. It's even a bit shorter than typical counter height so the client can comfortably chop at her preferred height. The dimension of the project are: 55" long, 27" wide, and 32" tall (33" with the stone top).
