But, don't be fooled! A lot of work went into making these shelves look this cool (and function this beautifully).
First, our client chose just the right pieces of wood from our reclaimed collection (some might call it a hoard). Next, we cut the pieces to size and flattened the pieces so they would fit cozily up agains the walls. Then we hollowed out two slots in the back of each of the pieces to fit the enormous hardware (special ordered from China). It turns out the hardware is pretty big, just in case you want to store your trophy collection on one of these shelves.
Finally we finished the wood - we did this set in a gray wash to match the rest of the client's office furnishings. We have another set for sale that we finished using a clear sealer - so they're more of a light brown wooden flavor (find 'em at the Somerville Flea Market - check our calendar for dates).
As you can see in the photos, we hung them up securely in our client's office. Not just a couple of pieces of wood, right?
We have a couple of more photos for your viewing pleasure, click through the gallery and enjoy!
